Forest School at West Hoathly

Fun in the woodland

Each half term, every class gets the opportunity to have a forest school session in the woodland on land opposite the school site.  Come rain or shine, we trudge off to the woods and learn a range of skills including whittling, fire lighting, den building, to name but a few.  There is generally an opportunity to enjoy smores or some other delicacy cooked on the campfire towards the end of the session.

Life skills

The forest school sessions provide our children with life skills such as perseverance (when trying to light the flint), co-operation (den building), safety (when using an axe to chop wood) and resilience.
