KEY STAGE 1 - AUTUMN SYLLABUS

SKILLS & APPLICATIONS STRANDS

In the Autumn Term we will initially focus on everyday skills and applications.  We use Microsoft Office software to teach these strands, due to their wide spread use in schools and in the workplace.  There are 3 strands to this subject area, which are listed below.  In addition to that, we cover Computer Science at the end of the term. 

COMPUTING TOPICS

  1. Word Processing - Microsoft Office Word
  2. Presentations – Microsoft Office PowerPoint
  3. Spreadsheets - Microsoft Office Excel
  4. Computer Science - Variable
     

MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD

In this strand we use Microsoft Office Word to introduce the children to word processing and documents.  Year-on-year we revisit the strand, in order to develop the related knowledge and skills.

Year Group Focus

  • Y1 Creating a text document - Entering and correcting text, and moving around a page.
  • Y2 Creating a simple text and image document - Entering, editing and formatting text, and inserting an image.

 MICROSOFT OFFICE POWERPOINT

In this strand we use Microsoft Office PowerPoint, to introduce the children to presentations and slides.  Year-on-year we revisit the strand, in order to develop the related knowledge and skills.

Year Group Focus

  • Y1 Creating a slide - To be used in a group presentation.
    Entering text in the appropriate placeholders, correcting errors, and inserting an image.
  • Y2 Creating a presentation - Consisting of a Title slide and 3 Subject slides.
    Entering, editing and formatting text, and inserting images.
     

MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL

In this strand we use Microsoft Office Excel, to introduce the children to spreadsheets and formulae.  Year-on-year we revisit the strand, in order to develop the related knowledge and skills.

Year Group Focus

  • Y1 Entering data in Spreadsheets - Columns, rows and cells.
    Entering data in cells and correcting errors, in an existing spreadsheet.
  • Y2 Using data tables - Tables, and Charts & Graphs.
    Entering data in a table, correcting errors, and creating a Bar Chart, in an existing spreadsheet.
     

COMPUTER SCIENCE

In this strand we provide an overview of Computer Science as a whole.  We will look at current concepts and ideas from the world of technology, and how it is evolving.  The content of these sessions is subject to change, and is not therefore set out on this page
