What have we been doing?

This year we have been engaged with an exciting series of activities and events as part of our Healthy Living Project funded by a substantial grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

To begin with we have been able to provide after school sports clubs, free of charge, for the whole year.  Led by our coach Mr Lewis there has been a Multi-sport Club for our younger children (Key Stage 1) and Sport Team Club for the juniors (Key Stage 2).

During the various holidays we have also been able to offer, again free of charge to parents, multi-sport and activity sessions for up to 20 children in each session. These have been very well received and we hope to be able to offer more in future. The inflatables have proved particularly popular and we have developed the game of "Hobby-Horse" Polo.

All of our children have had the opportunity to take part in healthy lifestyle and exercise sessions - learning about ways to fit exercise and activity into their everyday routines as well as attempting various challenges to improve their fitness.

Our family day at Tilgate Park in Crawley was a big success with many of our children joining in the "Go Ape" tree top trail and a giant game of "Ultimate" Frisbee.   Several staff and parents were there to support and encourage the children and the experience was very exciting.

Towards the end of the project all the children took part in "Healthy Eating" workshops.  Each class learned about different aspects of healthy eating including the risks of "added sugar" and how to make changes, the value of fruit and vegetables and how to maintain a balanced diet.
